Easton: Painting Miles

Synopsis

This documentary traces the life of Easton Davy, a visionary jazz art painter from New York's Bronx. From his early career struggles and rejection by the New York art establishment, to finding his niche in jazz-inspired art, Easton's journey is one of resilience and passion. The film captures his unexpected detour during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he was stranded on the island of Nevis. Here, he formed an online connection with a Dutch woman, leading him to Rotterdam, where he navigates a new relationship while yearning for his son back in New York.

Creating this documentary was a journey fueled by passion. Having my first full-length film win an award is a profound honor and testament to the power of dedication and hard work.

Director Statement

This documentary is a project I had envisioned for a long time, but COVID-19 delayed its creation. When Easton came to the Netherlands to see if his online relationship could work in real life, it presented a perfect opportunity. What began as a plan for just a few days of shooting evolved into a year-long journey, including my first travel to New York. This project has been a labor of love, and I am thrilled to present it as my first full-length documentary film.
